Complete Guide on How to Activate Parental Control on DStv

This tutorial aims at showing you how to put necessary control measures in place to ensure your kids watch age appropriate contents always.

As you know, DStv offers a wide range of Channels in different areas and categories and these Channels show different Content for all age range.

It is the sole responsibility of a Parent to regulate what these kids watch, so they don't go about watching Contents that are not age appropriate.

It is interesting to Note that DStv does not show adult Content but it is highly important one regulates what the kids watch through Parental Guidance.

Parental guidance is the control measures taken by Parents to guide what their kids watch in order to safeguard them from exposure to Contents that are detrimental to them.

How to Activate Parental Control on your DStv Decoder

1. Press the DStv button on your remote to go to the the menu tab
2. Using the arrow right button, navigate to Settings and click OK
3. Scroll down to Parental Control, press OK
4. Click on PG settings
5. At this point, you will be required to enter a 4 digit PIN. By default, DStv Parental Control PIN is '1234'. Enter '1234'
6. Click on Personalise behind the "global blocking" tab
7. Scroll down to 'Parental Control'
8. Select 'P13'. This blocks every Program rated above 16
9. You can also select "FAM". This blocks all other channels & allows only channels that are rated 13 or below

Congratulations, you have successfully activated Parental Control on your DStv Decoder.

How to block Channels on DStv

When a channel is blocked, it shows a "PG blocked" message each time the channel number is pressed

1. Press the DStv button on your remote to go to the the menu tab
2. Using the arrow right button, navigate to Settings and click OK
3. Scroll down to Parental Control, press OK
4. Click on PG settings
5. At this point, you will be required to enter a 4 digit PIN. By default, DStv Parental Control PIN is '1234'. Enter '1234'
6. Click on Personalise behind the "global blocking" tab
7. Switch ON "Channel blocking" to activate
8. Click on "Select blocked Channels"
9. Select all channels you want to block, click OK

With this, all selected channels would be blocked. If anyone wants to gain access to them ever again, they need to unblock the channels.

How to Unblock Channels on DStv

1. Press the DStv button on your remote to go to the the menu tab
2. Using the arrow right button, navigate to Settings and click OK
3. Scroll down to Parental Control, press OK
4. Click on PG settings
5. At this point, you will be required to enter a 4 digit PIN. By default, DStv Parental Control PIN is '1234'. Enter '1234'
6. Click on Personalise behind the "global blocking" tab
7. Choose "No blocking"

How to Change Parental Control PIN

You need to change the default PIN. You will agree with me that the "1234" PIN is too common and easy and it's only matter of time before the kids memorizes them and begin to use them in your absence.

1. Press the DStv button on your remote to go to the the menu tab
2. Using the arrow right button, navigate to Settings and click OK
3. Scroll down to Parental Control, press OK
4. Click on PG settings
5. At this point, you will be required to enter a 4 digit PIN. By default, DStv Parental Control PIN is '1234'. Enter '1234'
6. Scroll to "change PIN" and enter 4 digits of your choice
7. Confirm the PIN. This takes you back to the Parental Control menu
8. Press the return button to exit

How to put password on a channel

A time may come when you do not want any member of the family to have access to a particular channel, the following steps will guide you on how to lock any channel of your choice

1. Press the DStv button on your remote to go to the the menu tab
2. Using the arrow right button, navigate to Settings and click OK
3. Scroll down to Parental Control, press OK
4. Click on PG settings
5. Setup a PG PIN to a new one
6. Select the channels you wish to block
7. Press the return button to exit

How to turn off Parental Control without a password

To turn off Parental Control without a password, simply reset your decoder to factory default. This will erase all forms of settings on your DStv Decoder
